How To Naturally Clean And Deodorize Your Ceramic Tile Floors

If your home's ceramic tile floors look dull and have dirty grout lines, then you can easily clean them with ingredients you already have in your kitchen. Whether you haven't quite been keeping up on the floor cleaning like you should or if the floor has developed a buildup of floor cleaning solution that needs to be stripped off, using natural products will get the tile and grout clean while keeping harmful chemicals out of your family's living space.

To easily clean and deodorize your tile floors, you need the following:

  • white vinegar
  • baking soda
  • a bucket
  • a broom and dustpan (or a vacuum cleaner)
  • an old toothbrush
  • a damp cloth

Follow these steps to make your ceramic tile floors look like new:

Step 1: Clean Surface Dirt Off of the Floor

Before you mop your tile floor, first, you need to remove any surface dirt. You can accomplish this by either sweeping the floors very well or vacuuming them.

Step 2: Clean Dirty Areas of Grout

As you are sweeping the floor, watch for areas where the grout is dirty and needs to be cleaned. To clean the grout you can use baking soda. Baking soda is inexpensive and a bit abrasive so it cleans tile grout very well.

Mix some baking soda in a bowl with a few drops of water to make a thin paste. Rub the paste along the grout lines using an old toothbrush. Spent time scrubbing the grout in highly stained areas. Wipe away the excess baking soda with a damp cloth.

Step 3: Mop the Floor with a Vinegar Solution

Now that the grout is clean, it is time to clean the tiles themselves. The best thing you can use is a solution of white vinegar and warm water. Vinegar is a very weak acid and is excellent for stripping off dirt and old cleaning solution residue from your tile floor. If you do not like the odor of vinegar, then you can always add a few drops of essential oil to it to help improve its smell. A few drops of citrus oil will greatly improve the vinegar's scent and will leave behind a nice clean smell in your home.

Mix a couple of gallons of warm water with a couple cups of vinegar in your mop bucket. Start at one corner of the floor and mop it with the vinegar solution. Take special care to mop up any remaining baking soda residue from when you cleaned the grout.

Allow the ceramic tile floor to dry and it will look as new as the day it was first installed. Contact a company like Peerless Building Maintenance for more information and assistance.
